And when he was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem according to the custom of the feast. When they returned, after the feast was over, the child Jesus remained in Jerusalem, without Joseph and his mother knowing. And thinking that he was among the company, they walked the path of a day; And sought him among relatives and acquaintances; But when they found him not, they returned to Jerusalem, seeking him. And it came to pass that three days after, they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers of the law, hearing and asking them. And all that heard him were astonished at his understanding and his answers. And his mother said to him, "Son, why have you made us like this? Behold, thy father and I have sought thee with anguish. And he said unto them, Why seekest thou me? Did you not know that in my Father's business I need to be? But they did not understand the words he spoke to them. (Lc 2.42-50)
